Special case of EtherCAT® master from Beckhoff Automation GmbH: Connection via Ethernet over EtherCAT® (EoE/VoE)
The Ethernet over EtherCAT® (EoE) function is used for the connection via the mailbox gateway of the EtherCAT® master. Via the mailbox gateway, the EoE protocol is converted into a VoE protocol that can be used as the proprietary data streaming protocol.
The connection of the engineering PC is explained in more detail using an example. The CX2020 higher-level controller from Beckhoff Automation GmbH is used in the example. The MOVISUITE® engineering software and the TwinCAT 3 tool are used for configuring and starting up the devices.
The following cases can be distinguished depending on the installation location of MOVISUITE®:
Case 1: MOVISUITE® and EtherCAT® master on the same device hardware

[1] | Engineering PC | [5] | EtherCAT® interface of the EtherCAT® master |
[2] | MOVISUITE® | [6] | Inverter from SEW-EURODRIVE |
[3] | Internal IP routing via EoE | [7] | EtherCAT®/SBusPLUS interface of the inverters including connecting cable |
[4] | Mailbox gateway MBX |

Case 2: MOVISUITE® and EtherCAT® master on different device hardware

[1] | Engineering PC with MOVISUITE® | [5] | EtherCAT® interface of the EtherCAT® master |
[2] | Engineering interface of the EtherCAT® master | [6] | Inverter from SEW-EURODRIVE |
[3] | Internal IP routing | [7] | EtherCAT®/SBusPLUS interface of the inverters including connecting cable |
[4] | Mailbox gateway MBX |
