Step 2: Determine load moment of inertia

  1. Under [Drive trains] > [Optimization DT1] > [Mass moment of inertia] > [J-load (without gear unit)], enter the inertia of the load in relation to the motor shaft.
    • If the inertia of the load is not known, it can be measured.
  2. If necessary, reduce the value for control stiffness recommended by SEW-EURODRIVE (e.g. 0.6) under [Drive trains] > [Optimization DT1] > [Dynamic behavior] before determining the inertia.
  3. First, set the backlash for determining the load moment of inertia to 0%.
  4. To start the measurement, click the [Determine load moment of inertia] button.
    • The inertia can be determined by moving the drive (in manual mode or via process data). The measurement should be performed without load. If the drive is moved in position control mode to determine the load moment of inertia, a reference run must be performed beforehand.
  5. Apply the determined inertia.
