Different cases when using the various power supply modules

In the following cases, braking resistors are required for MOVIDRIVE® modular:

  • If regenerative operating states occur when using the MDP90A.. power supply module, always use a braking resistor. Observe the notes in chapter Selecting the braking resistor for MDP90A.. and MDR9.B.. .
  • When using the MDR9.B.. supply and regenerative module, a braking resistor is required if the regenerative function is inhibited and regenerative energy occurs. Observe the notes in chapter Selecting the braking resistor for MDP90A.. and MDR9.B.. .
  • If the line voltage is 500 V and a MDR9.B.. supply and regenerative module is used, a BW012-002 braking resistor is always required. The BW012-002 braking resistor prevents the DC link voltage from overshooting when the device is switched on.
  • When using the MDP92A.. power supply module with controlled DC link voltage, a braking resistor is required if generator mode is reached during operation and the regenerative energy cannot be absorbed entirely by the energy storage units. Alternatively, the braking resistor can also be used to discharge an energy storage unit. This is useful, for example, if the energy storage unit must be discharged quickly and easily for system reasons or for servicing purposes.
