Thermostat control and heating behavior of the oil heater

Observe the following information.

Factory setting of the trip point:

The trip point of the oil heater thermostat is factory-set to a temperature of about 5 K above the respective initial temperature for gear unit startup, see chapter Limit temperature for gear unit startup.

The thermostat turns off the oil heater at this temperature. Only then may the gear unit be started up. If the temperature falls below this value by about 5 K, the heater is automatically switched on again.

Safe oil temperature control:

To avoid overheating and thus possible damage to the oil, the maximum surface load of the heating tubes is limited. This extends the heating time of the cold gear unit oil to up to several hours – depending on the gear unit size, mounting position, oil volume, and ambient temperature.

Installation and startup:

Thermostat and heating elements are already installed in the gear unit and ready for operation. Before startup, they must be properly wired and connected to the current supply.

Special operating conditions:

Contact SEW‑EURODRIVE if a differing oil viscosity class is used or if ambient temperatures fall below the specified limit temperature.
