Connecting the discharge unit

For safety reasons, energy storage units must be discharged prior to performing any service work. SEW-EURODRIVE therefore recommends providing a suitable discharge unit for applications with energy storage units. Select the corresponding discharge unit for your application from the table.

A discharge connection socket is required to connect a discharge unit. Complete energy storage systems from SEW-EURODRIVE, which are ready-mounted in a control cabinet, come equipped with a connection for a discharge unit in their delivery state.

If double-layer capacitors are used when constructing an energy storage system from individual components, always ensure a connection for a discharge unit is provided. In this case, you will need the components listed in the table. When using a capacitor module of type MDC90A, optionally provide a discharge connection.

You should always protect the connecting facility for the discharge unit with a DC voltage fuse. You can use a miniature circuit breaker with characteristic C or a full range fuse in utilization category gR for this purpose.

In both cases, the following specification must be adhered to:

  • Minimum nominal voltage: DC 800 V
  • Maximum rated current: 16 A
  • Breaking capacity at least 10 kA

Provide a facility for mechanical attachment of the discharge connection socket in the control cabinet.
