Normally, these are 4-pole drives with self-ventilation that are designed for a line frequency of 50 Hz at a synchronous speed of 1500 min-1 or 60 Hz at a synchronous speed of 1800 min-1. In rare cases, drives with other numbers of poles are also operated on the frequency inverter (e.g. 2-pole or 6-pole drives).

The motors are designed in various nominal power ratings for the duty types S1 "continuous duty", S2 "short-time duty", S3 "intermittent duty" or S9 exclusively "frequency inverter operation". As a rule, only the rated data for line operation is specified on the nameplate of the drive, whereby the operating mode specification also refers explicitly to this rated point.

Even if the nameplate does not contain any information on inverter operation, the drives can also be run on the frequency inverter (thermal and dynamic limit characteristic curves for inverter operation) in accordance with the SEW-EURODRIVE project planning specifications.
