Holding brake – BE.., BE.H brake or BE.. safety brake

If the result of the respective tests in the project planning procedure is negative, the following table describes the possible project planning measures for an alternative drive.

Checks

Formula

Possible measures

Is the braking torque sufficient?

2.1

  • Select a greater braking torque.
  • Select a larger brake size (adhere to feasibility).
  • Select larger motor, in case a larger brake could not be mounted prior.
  • Select a larger gear ratio (results in a higher emergency-stop speed).
  • Reduce the load in the application.

Is the permitted no-load starting frequency of the brake sufficient?

2.2

  • Change brake type.
  • Change the type of brake control.
  • Reduce the no-load starting frequency of the application.

Are the emergency stop speed and operating speeds permitted?

2.6

  • Select brake control with AC/DC shutdown.
  • Select a smaller gear ratio.
  • Reduce the motion speed of the load in the application.

Is the vertical/horizontal emergency-stop braking work sufficient?

2.8

  • Reduce the emergency stop speed.
  • Changing the braking torque.
  • Select a larger brake size (adhere to feasibility).

Are the number of emergency stop operations and emergency stop frequency sufficient?

2.9

  • Reduce the emergency-stop braking work.
  • Reduce the emergency stop speed.

Final drive check:

Calculating the drive considering the selected components and their characteristic values (such as inertia).

For detailed configuration criteria and procedures, refer to the SEW‑EURODRIVE project planning guidelines.

–

  • Select a new gearmotor.

Is the emergency-stop load on the gear unit (torque) permitted?

2.12

  • Select a lower braking torque.
  • Select a larger gear unit.
  • Select a different gear unit ratio.

Is the emergency stop load on the gear unit (overhung load) permitted?

2.14

  • Select a lower braking torque.
  • Select a larger gear unit.
  • Select a different gear unit ratio.
  • Select a different gear unit design.

Is the braking distance sufficient?

2.17

2.18

  • Select a greater braking torque.
  • Reduce the emergency stop speed.

Is the deceleration permitted?

2.20

  • Select a different braking torque.
