Step 4: Passive brake testing (optional)
In step 4, the brake is tested to verify if it can maintain the present load torque.
This step is not necessary in machines without load torque. In these cases, the load torque can be set to the value "0". The brake test then skips this step.
The brake is exclusively loaded with the existing load torque of the machine without additional motor torque. In order to do so, the STO safety sub-function is activated at the inverter via the Duration of individual test steps. The drive cannot generate torque. Possible movement of the machine is monitored whilst the "STO" state is active. The movement must be within the range of the Permitted movement at standstill of the respective brake.
If two brakes are to be tested, this step is first carried out with the brake on the safe digital output F-DO00, and the second brake remains released. This step is then repeated for the second brake on the safe digital output F-DO01, and the first brake remains released.
