Updating the ESI file

 

INFORMATION

The ESI file may only be installed directly for third-party controllers. For controllers from SEW-EURODRIVE, install a package containing the ESI file instead of the ESI file. You can download this from the website. The package is installed using the Package Manager in the IEC Editor.

If a newer version is installed when an ESI file is already installed, errors may occur when integrating the modules.

  • The scan function does not detect any devices.
  • Devices cannot be added manually.

In this case you must uninstall the existing device descriptions, which are also contained in the new version of the ESI file. Proceed as follows to do so.

  • The IEC Editor is open.
  1. Click the menu item [Tools] > [Device repository…].
    • The "Device repository" window opens.
  2. Open the path "Fieldbuses"/"EtherCAT"/"Module".
  3. Select all modules whose name begins with "SEW".
  4. Click [Uninstall].
  5. Confirm the prompt by clicking the [Yes] button.
  6. Open the path "Fieldbuses"/"EtherCAT"/"Slave"/"SEW-EURODRIVE - Bus coupler".
  7. Select all modules whose name begins with "SEW OCE12C".
  8. Click [Uninstall].
  9. Confirm the prompt by clicking the [Yes] button.
  10. Click the [Close] button.
  11. Close the IEC Editor.
  12. Install the current ESI file as described in the section Installing an ESI file.
