Project planning measures

The following table describes the possible system design measures when using BK.., BKB.., BP.., BR.., BY.., and BZ.. brakes as well as BY.. and BZ.. safety brakes as holding brakes, in order to identify an alternative drive system if the result of the respective checks within the design process is negative.

Possible measures

Is the braking torque sufficient?

1.1a and 1.1b

  • Select a greater braking torque.
  • Select a larger brake size (adhere to feasibility).
  • Select a larger motor.
  • Select a larger gear ratio.
  • Reduce the load in the application.

Are the emergency stop speed and operating speeds permitted?

1.4a and 1.4b

  • Select brake control with AC/DC shutdown.
  • Select a smaller gear ratio.
  • Reduce the motion speed of the load in the application.

Is the permitted no-load switching frequency of the brake sufficient?

1.5

  • Change the brake type/the type of brake control.
  • Reduce no-load switching frequency of the application.

Is the vertical/horizontal emergency-stop braking work sufficient?

1.7

  • Reduce the emergency stop speed.
  • Select a different braking torque.

Are the number of emergency-stop braking operations and the emergency-stop switching frequency sufficient?

1.8

1.9

  • Reduce the emergency-stop braking work.
  • Reduce the emergency stop speed.

Final drive check:

Calculating the drive considering the selected components and their characteristic values (such as inertia).

For detailed configuration criteria and procedures, refer to the SEW‑EURODRIVE project planning guidelines.

–

  • Select a new gearmotor.

Is the emergency-stop load on the gear unit (torque) permitted?

1.12

  • Select a lower braking torque.
  • Select a larger gear unit.
  • Select a different gear unit ratio.

Is the emergency stop load on the gear unit (radial force) permitted?

1.14

  • Select a lower braking torque.
  • Select a larger gear unit.
  • Select a different gear unit ratio.
  • Select a different gear unit design.

Is the braking distance sufficient?

1.17

  • Select a greater braking torque.
  • Reduce the emergency stop speed.

Sufficient stopping distance?

1.18

  • Select a greater braking torque.
  • Reduce the emergency stop speed.

Is the deceleration permitted?

1.20

  • Select a different braking torque.
