System bus communication
For the startup and diagnostics of a synchronization network, it is helpful to establish system bus communication (SBus communication) between all TES31A supply units of the network. The units are then visible in the MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio software, which simplifies startup.
The SBus is a CAN bus in accordance with CAN specification 2.0, parts A and B.
The total cable length permitted for SBus communication depends on the set SBus baud rate:
SBus baud rate | Total cable length |
|---|---|
125 kBd | 500 m |
250 kBd | 250 m |
500 kBd (default) | 100 m |
1000 kBd | 25 m |
The procedure for connecting the system bus is described in chapters Cabling for multi-point synchronization and Cabling for single-point parallel connection.
Please also note the information in the chapter "Installing multiple units" in the "MOVITRANS® line TES31A Decentralized Supply Unit" operating instructions.
INFORMATION

The synchronization signal is also transmitted via the hardware of a CAN-based bus. The MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio software can be used to configure this connection to the second system bus (SBus2) or for synchronization (Sync). The same CAN bus connection cables are therefore available for both the synchronization signal and the system bus.
Depending on the synchronization mode, the following permissible total cable lengths apply to the synchronization cables:
Synchronization mode | Total cable length |
|---|---|
Multi-point | 320 m |
Single-point | 25 m |
