Stepper motor

The stepper motor is a drive for high-precision positioning tasks. With each pulse, the axis of a stepper motor rotates by a defined angle. With a fast sequence of pulses, the stepping movement becomes continuous rotary movement. The following factors must be taken into account when selecting the stepper motor:

  • Connection type (4, 6, or 8 wire connection)
  • Number of phases (2-phase)
  • Torque characteristics as a function of speed
  • Motor current as a function of speed
  • Winding resistance or motor inductance
