Fan applications or direct drives with high external inertia

Proceed as follows:

  • Start up the drive train.
    • Use the operating mode that is appropriate for the motor (VFCPLUS or ELSM®).
    • Activate the "Flying start" function so that a rotating motor is detected when enabled.
    • If no braking resistor is used and DC-link overvoltage is to be avoided, the braking mode can be switched to 2Q braking operation.
    • If a third-party motor is used, activate FCB 25 parameter measurement after motor startup. Make sure that the motor does not rotate in an uncontrolled manner during the measurement. If a fan is present, it may be necessary to bring the fan to a standstill and mechanically lock it before carrying out the parameter measurement. Use suitable means.
  • Optimize the drive train.
    • Set the external inertia. You can select "10 × J_Motor" as the initial value for a direct drive.
    • Initially, the default values can be retained for stiffness and backlash.
  • Limit the limit values.
    • Set the application limit to the value appropriate for the application. An overload is usually not required for fans; therefore, a value of ≤ 150% is recommended.
  • Deactivate monitoring functions.
    • When 2Q braking operation is used, the deceleration setpoint is not maintained at high regenerative energy. Therefore, it is advisable to disable speed monitoring completely ("Off") or set it to "Motor mode" only.
