Areas of application
A brake test is used, first and foremost, to meet the requirements of functional safety. In a safety system, standards require testing of the brakes when the brakes are used in a safety-related manner. In a brake systems with multiple brakes, a brake test must be carried out separately for each brake.
Outside of functional safety, a brake test is used to detect a failure in the overall system before it occurs. This can be due, e.g. to preventive maintenance, increasing availability, or even protecting investments.
