Temperature monitoring of MDC90A-0120.. capacitor module

The MDC90A–0120.. capacitor module is designed for a maximum interior temperature of 65 °C. The capacitor module may not be operated continuously above this temperature.

The capacitance of the capacitors is reduced due to aging processes, and the equivalent series resistance increases. This leads to an increase in the interior temperature.

From an interior temperature of > 75 °C inside the device, there is a risk of thermal overloading of the capacitors, which can lead to the device being damaged or destroyed.

If necessary, equip the device with the designated temperature sensor, see chapter Temperature sensor for MDC90A-0120...

Because of the position of the temperature sensor in the housing, an amount of 10 K must be added to the measured temperature value.

Tinternal = Tsensor + 10 K

  • From 65 °C (Tinternal): Reduction of the service life (by half at over 60 °C)
  • From 75 °C (Tinternal): You must switch the system off. A further increase in temperature can destroy the device.

The temperature sensor can be monitored via the MOVI-C® CONTROLLER.

This requires the use of additional hardware, such as an OAI45C I/O module.

If there is only one MDC90A–0120.. capacitor module present, you can connect the temperature sensor to terminal X33 on the MDP92A.. or MDE90A... In this case, you need the dropping resistor from the accessory pack.

The temperature is not evaluated via the MDP92A or MDE90A module, but via a MOVIKIT® PowerMode or EnergyMode software module.
