Combined encoder evaluation

The additional function "Combined encoder evaluation" makes it possible to combine a high-resolution motor encoder with a low-resolution distance encoder that is subject to dead time. By combining the two encoders, the gain can be increased many times over, thereby generating a machine-specific, dynamically usable, high-resolution encoder signal. As a result, the machine reacts faster, oscillates less, and reaches its position more quickly – even with very large inertias or non-linear mechanisms such as belt winders with winding diameter changes of up to a factor of 2. For larger non-linearities and speeds above 1.6 m/s, contact SEW‑EURODRIVE.

The following figure illustrates how the additional function works:

The additional function "Combined encoder evaluation" is started up in different ways depending on the application. For more information on the respective startup of the additional function, refer to a corresponding application example.
