Project planning of the braking resistor
Under normal operating conditions, the power supply module with supply and energy recovery feeds regenerative energy that exceeds the DC link buffer capacity back into the supply system. A braking resistor is therefore not necessary in normal operation.
Two cases are listed below in which a braking resistor must be used:
- With a line voltage of 500 V, a type BW012-002 braking resistor is required to prevent an overshoot of the DC link voltage when the device is switched on.
- If the regenerative function is permanently deactivated, the regenerative module operates in the same way as a power supply module. The regenerative energy must then be dissipated via a braking resistor.
