OS surface protection

As an option for standard surface protection, motors and gear units are also available with OS1 to OS4 surface protection. The special measure "Z" is also available. Special measure "Z" means that large contour recesses are filled with rubber before painting.

Surface protection Motors/brakemotors in degree of protection IP56 or IP66 are only available with OS2, OS3, or OS4 surface protection. Gearmotors with OS2 – OS4 surface protection are only offered in combination with KS corrosion protection for motors.

Suitable for machines and systems in buildings and indoor spaces with neutral atmospheres.

  • Conveyor belts at airports

OS1

Suitable for environments prone to condensation and atmospheres with low humidity or contamination, such as applications outdoors under roof or with protection device.

  • C2 (low)
  • Systems in saw mills
  • Industrial doors
  • Agitators and mixers

OS2

Suited for environments with high humidity or moderate atmospheric contamination, such as applications outdoors that are subject to direct weathering.

Based on corrosivity category According to ISO 12944-2, classification of ambient conditions.:

  • C3 (medium)
  • Applications in amusement parks
  • Funiculars and chair-lifts
  • Applications in gravel plants
  • Systems in nuclear power plants

OS3

Suitable for environments with high humidity and occasional severe atmospheric and chemical contamination. Occasional acidic or caustic wet cleaning. Also for applications in coastal areas with moderate salt exposure.

  • Sewage treatment plants
  • Port cranes
  • Mining applications

OS4

Suitable for environments with permanent humidity and severe atmospheric or chemical contamination. Regular acidic and caustic wet cleaning, also with chemical cleaning agents.

  • Drives in malting plants
  • Wet areas in the beverage industry
  • Conveyor belts in the food industry
