Licensing

When you start the software for the first time, a dialog window for activating your purchased license opens automatically. If you install the software via the Windows console, you can also license the software directly during installation. You can activate a license at a later time and view the current licensing status in the "Settings" menu under the License tab.

The prices of the licenses can be requested from the Service or Sales departments of SEW‑EURODRIVE. All licenses are based on the volume of data consumed. Not the data volume sent by the SDC is measured but the data volume retrieved from the devices. The following licenses are available:

Trial license

7-day trial period for evaluating the software with full functionality and 10 GB data volume. After the 7 days, data acquisition is stopped immediately.

Plant licenses ("IoT Suite licenses")

Plant licenses can only be used in conjunction with the IoT suite (IoT Suite operating mode automatically active). They are not bound to a computer and can therefore be used on any number of installations of the SDC. To distribute the plant license, simply copy the license.json file exported when saving the SmartDataCollector configuration to the corresponding computers. See also Program configuration.

The data consumed is then billed either once or annually and for a fixed data volume per month price. For this purpose, the required data volume is initially determined based on the configuration.

By using a factory license, all telemetry and configuration data is automatically encrypted and signed as ZIP archives.

Stand-alone licenses

Stand-alone licenses are bound to a computer. A separate license must therefore be purchased for each computer that uses the SDC.

The different stand-alone licenses differ in their limitation of the available data volume of the respective installation of the SDC per month.

All telemetry and configuration data is transmitted unencrypted. The format of the output (JSON or signed as a ZIP archive) depends on whether the IoT Suite operating mode is activated.
