Draining the oil

Only SEW‑EURODRIVE Service or specialists trained by SEW‑EURODRIVE are permitted to open the gear unit cover.

  1. Perform the steps described in the "Preliminary work for inspection and maintenance" chapter.
  2. WARNING! Risk of burns due to hot surfaces. Severe injuries. Let the device cool down sufficiently before touching it.
    • However, the gear unit must still be warm, otherwise the high viscosity of excessively cold oil will make it more difficult to drain the oil correctly.
  3. Remove the drive unit from the system. Otherwise an oil change is not possible.
  4. SEW‑EURODRIVE recommends that you drain the oil in the position depicted in the figure below.
  5. Place an adequate container underneath the oil drain plug [2].
  6. WARNING! Risk of burns due to hot gear oil. Severe injuries. Let the device cool down sufficiently before touching it.
  7. Remove the lowest screw plug [2] or the breather valve installed there (depends on the mounting position used according to the mounting position sheet).
  8. It is easier to drain the oil when you also remove the upper screw plug [3] or breather valve installed there (flowing in of air).
  9. Drain the oil. Completely remove the residual oil [1] in the drive with a suitable device.
