Before you start

Observe the 5 safety rules before commencing the work: Disconnect. Secure the device against a restart. Check that no voltage is applied. Ground and short-circuit. Cover or isolate neighboring live parts.

Check that the following conditions have been met:

  • Make sure that the ambient temperature complies with the specifications in the order documents.
  • Do not modify the gear unit or the mount-on components without prior consultation with SEW‑EURODRIVE.
  • Make sure that the oil level plugs, the oil drain plugs, and the breather are freely accessible.
  • When installing the gear unit, make sure that the customer's mounting structure leaves enough room for the breather and the oil dipstick.
  • When using an oil level glass to monitor the oil level, protect it against damage.
  • The unit must not be exposed to direct sunlight when installed outdoors. Provide suitable safeguards, such as covers, roofing, or similar. Avoid heat build-up.
  • Ensure that no foreign objects, e.g. falling objects, interfere with the function of the gear unit.
  • Protect the gear unit from direct cold air currents. Condensation can cause water to accumulate in the oil.
  • Do not perform welding work anywhere on the drive. Do not use the drives as a ground point for welding work. Welding may destroy gearing components and bearings.
  • Repair any paint damage to the gear unit, for instance on the breather.
  • Make sure that the gear unit and the mounted components do not protrude into the walkway.
