Churning losses and thermal rating
Churning losses may occur with the following conditions. They must be considered during the thermal check:
- A mounting position in which the 1st gear unit stage is fully immersed in the lubricant. The corresponding mounting positions of the gear unit can be found in the "MOVIMOT® advanced.." catalog > the "MOVIMOT® advanced gear motor mounting positions" chapter and are marked with a *.
- A high mean input speed and consequently a high circumferential speed of the gear wheels of the input gear stage.
If one or both of these conditions apply, determine the requirements from the application and the corresponding operating conditions (see the Data for calculating the thermal rating chapter) and consult SEW-EURODRIVE. SEW‑EURODRIVE can calculate the thermal rating based on the actual operating conditions. The thermal rating of the gear unit can be increased by appropriate measures, such as by using a synthetic lubricant with higher thermal endurance properties.
INFORMATION
To keep churning losses to a minimum, use the gear unit preferably in mounting position M1.
