Data volume and memory requirements
The resulting data volume and the associated storage requirements depend on the configured data containers. A rough estimate of the expected data volume is provided in the form of a tabular overview for each of the devices in the "Data containers" tab below the list of data containers. The IT infrastructure must be designed for the values specified here.
The overview shows both the collected data volume at field level (OT network) and the transmitted data volume (IT network). Since binary protocols are used in the OT network and a textual data protocol (JSON) is used in the IT network, the two values can differ significantly. In addition, many metadata items are attached in the IT network. As a result, the specified data volume can differ by a factor of 250 in extreme cases.
Example
- OT: Data volume with binary coding of 4 parameters: 16 bytes
- IT: Data volume with textual coding as JSON of 4 parameters: 4424 bytes
