Notes on motor selection

Dimensioning a motor involves the following tasks to determine the thermal and dynamic load on the motor:

  • Calculating the effective operating point for checking the thermal load on the motor.
  • Determining the inertia ratio Jext / Jmot for checking the stability of the speed control.
