Selecting the residual current device

The inverter can cause a direct current in the protective earthing conductor.

Proceed as follows when selecting the residual current device:

  1. If using a residual current device is not mandatory according to the standards, SEW-EURODRIVE recommends not using a residual current device.
  2. WARNING! No protection against electric shock if an incorrect type of residual current device is used. Severe or fatal injuries. If a residual current device (residual current protection device RCD or residual current monitor RCM) is required, use a universal current sensitive type B RCD or RCM.
  3. If a residual current device is required, then select the residual current device according to the requirements for personnel, fire, or system protection. During selection, be mindful of the trigger characteristic, the delay, and the trigger rated current of the residual current device.
  4. During project planning, make sure that operation-related leakage currents are kept as low as possible in the system.
  5. If the operation-related leakage currents are too high, then you can divide the current supply among several residual current devices.
